About My Mob - Past & Present
Having embarked on tracing my ancestors and building a record of my relations I soon
became frustratingly aware of why this creation is called a family tree and why
family lines are termed branches.
Just like tree branches, the branches of a family tree keep growing and so with each
new birth this work becomes out of date. So if you can add any detail of family
members missing from this tree (including current generations) I would be very
pleased to hear from you.
Of course if you discover any errors, I would appreciate knowing about them and being
able to correct them so that some mistaken research on my part does not perpetuate
itself.
In relation to family names; I have recorded them as they appear in records such as
those of the Tasmanian Archives.
There are several instances of a family's surname having different spelling for each
child and instances where the spelling of surnames became different in Australian
records to the spelling in the person's country of origin. My branch of the Burden
family became Burdon and there is even one instance of a U.K. census taker spelling
the name Berden. This different spelling obviously arose in instances where my
ancestors were only semi-literate and were dealing with an official who recorded the
name as it sounded.
My ancestral line includes familiar family names in Tasmania such as Clifford
(Kloepfer), Allanby, Mundy, Jacobson, Athorn, Bellett, Kidner and Kingston. My
Burdon, [from Wiltshire], & Clifford, [from Germany], ancestors settled settled in
the Kellevie/Bream Creek area of Southern Tasmania along with my Allanby ancestors
[from Cumberland].
I have notes in respect of many of the people appearing in the tree. If you want to
know anything about an individual in the tree drop me a line and if I do have
anything in my notes that I can pass on I'll let you know.
As the stories of a relation's life, along with photos and descriptions of them, make
the tree come alive (and in effect keep the person alive for future generations) I
would appreciate any information, descriptions, notes, photos or stories that anyone
might like to pass on about a relation. If you do not want them published or passed
on further I will respect your wishes and keep them private.
